education
I come from Rosemont, Pennsylvania where I attended the Haverford School. After twelve years of Philip Bishop Days and wearing many combinations of maroon and gold, I proceeded toTrinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. There I pursued an English Degree with a concentration in Eighteenth Century Studies. I also managed to wack a silly green (or black) ball in a white court for four years. From Hartford I took my tuke to Atlanta (and never wore it). I kept myself busy in Gwinnett County but explored the northern regions like Tullulah Gorge, Cloudland Canyon and the AT. I met my wife, Jill, in this city...we had Basil rolls. I knew.
travel
I needed a change...so I pursued an interdisciplinary Master's at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. I chose the MEIR Program (Management, Economics and International Relations)and found myself studying environmental economics, the economic analysis of Law as well as the Politics of Renewable Energy. Jill came over in the spring when daylight had resumed. We found ourselves wandering along the cliffs of the North Sea, cycling through the verdant fields of Fife, stopping at many of the small fishing villages in the East Neuk--Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, Kingsbarns and Boarhills.
geoff and jill
Exactly one year later we returned for my graduation. Walking along the coast among the gorse and whin, I proposed to her. She accepted. We moved to Boston for two years. Jill and I spent most of our free time in the Green and White Mountains.
williamstown
For two years our days began in Western Massachusetts, more specifically in Williamstown. Jill established herself at Williams College and I jumped on board the Tripod community in early 1998 ostensibly to develop the Membership piece. This was a good move. I enjoyed this creative factory where an incredible collection of pioneers changed personal publishing and community on the web. We were a family of sorts. The archive still resonates with voices.
